Automate your searching and ordering
Carol Fagundus - Princeton University
Many vendors and organizations can now supply Marc format
files for you to load into your system with Voyager's bulk loading
capabilities. But what about the smaller vendors who aren't able
to
do this? Many such vendors do use spreadsheet and database programs
and can provide files for selection and ordering if you ask. See
how
you can use spreadsheets, delimited text files and database tables
in
conjunction with macros to automatically search and order an entire
file of selections. Examples will be shown using Excel, Access and
MacroExpress.

Voyager Plugins: Choices and Requirements
Sharon Yang – Rider University
Yanyi Lee – Wagner College
"A plugin is a computer program that interacts with a host
application to
provide a certain, usually very specific, function "on demand"
(Wikipeida).
Voyager users are very innovative in developing and integrating
such
programs with Voyager ILS. Some of the plugins are very useful.
The
presentation will provide an introduction to a few selected plugins
such as
OPAC Search Log Analyser, Patron SIF Viewer, Link Sleuth (Cataloging
link
checking), OPAC timeout redirect script, ec. The introduction will
include
an explanation of the technical requirements for implementing them.
If
possible, the presentation will show screen snapshots and live demos
of
selected plugins.

New Ledger Construction
Robert Cleary – Syracuse University
This presentation will review how Syracuse created a new ledger
for 07-08 to coordinate with a reorganization of collection development
responsibilities, and to more closely show support for the university’s
schools and colleges. A major goal was to reduce a ledger that comprised
256 allocated fund codes, with approximately 600 reporting funds,
in favor of a ledger with far fewer allocated fund codes. The new
ledger contains 56 allocated fund codes, with 579 reporting funds.
Cleary will review the process from beginning to end, including
issues encountered in the new fiscal year including bulk loading,
staff issues, missing fund codes, and changes in standard reports.
On July 2nd, Cleary started to create the new ledger and finished
it on July 3rd, including allocations. This was possible based on
a heavy reliance on Macro Express scripts, which not only constructed
the ledger but also entered allocations.

Top Ten (or so) WebVoyage Hacks
Edward Corrado - The College of New Jersey
Do you want spell checking in your WebVoyage OPAC? How about RSS
feeds? Maybe del.icio.us tagging? Edward M. Corrado, a veteran Voyager
administrator, will discuss various modifications and additions
that Systems Librarians around the world have made to WebVoyage.
Besides spell checking and RSS feeds, Edward will discuss adding
persistent links to bibliographic records, integrating Amazon.com
book covers and reviews, searching WebVoyage from the Firefox Web
browser search box, WebVoyage wrapper scripts and more. Each of
these hacks will be given an overview with instructions on where
to get more information. Towards the end of the session, time permitting,
session attendees will be asked to share there own experience in
adding functionality to WebVoyage.

Doing the Numbers: Cataloging Statistics
and Voyager
Marilyn Quinn – Rider University
Cathy Weng – The College of New Jersey
Donald Thornbury - Princeton University
Marilyn and Cathy will present short descriptions of how they create
and use cataloging
statistics at their libraries. This will be followed by discussion
among all
in attendance. This is a topic that continues to challenge Voyager
users,
who must devise local methods, create custom reports, and/or apply
add-on
programs in order to compensate for the lack of a straight-forward,
simple
methodology in our ILS. With administrators continuing to ask for
numbers,
it is important that we catalogers provide meaningful statistics,
numbers
that can be used, not just filed in an annual report. And the numbers
should
be relatively easy to determine. We hope this discussion will give
catalogers new ideas, but more than that, we need to tell our system
designers exactly what we need. Please join us and tell your colleagues
what
you are doing and what you wish you could do.

VuFind Discovery Portal: Features and
Implementation
Aaron Dobbs – Shippensburg University
Nicole Engard – Princeton Theological Seminary
Andrew Nagy - Villanova University
Contemporary libraries need state-of-the-art software to make their
collections and services visible and attractive to Web users accustomed
to the one stop-shopping aspects of Google and the customer-oriented
features of commercial sites such as Amazon. VuFind, an open-source
resource discovery portal developed for libraries by libraries,
has
harnessed the power of contemporary Web search technology that enables
users to query and browse the library's resources in a simple yet
sophisticated manner.
